The Accelerated Tobacco Treatment Specialist Program allows participants to complete the core training requirement needed to pursue professional certification through one comprehensive program. The program combines self-paced coursework and recorded modules with four days of live virtual training.
What You’ll Learn
Training topics include:
- Tobacco and nicotine dependence
- Assessment and counseling skills
- Individualized treatment planning
- Tobacco treatment medications
- Relapse prevention and recovery
- Treatment considerations for diverse populations
- Documentation, evaluation, professional responsibilities and ethics
Training Format
Participants complete approximately 10 hours of self-paced pre-work over several weeks, followed by four days of live virtual training on Zoom.
All participants must complete the pre-work before the live sessions, including those who have previously completed Essential Skills Training or other CTI online courses.
Participants need access to a computer with a webcam and should be prepared to participate in lectures and group activities. Instructions for accessing the online coursework and live sessions will be provided before the program begins.

Maine residents: $500
Non-Maine residents: $750
Payment is due by credit card at registration. The cost includes access to the online coursework and live virtual sessions, program materials and resources, and continuing education credit processing.
Continuing Education
Continuing education: Up to 27 CME/CEU credits available
Participants must attend all scheduled live sessions to receive continuing education credit. Partial credit is not available for participants who arrive late or leave early.
After the program, allow 7–10 days for attendance to be processed in CloudCME. Participants can then complete the program evaluation and download their continuing education or general attendance certificate.
Accreditation and Certification
CTI’s Maine Tobacco Treatment Education & Training Program is fully accredited by the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs.
Completing the Accelerated Program fulfills the core training requirement needed to pursue professional certification. It does not automatically provide certification. Additional requirements may include an application, examination and other steps established by the certifying organization.
