This session will provide a brief overview of the seven frontline medications for nicotine treatment. It will also explore how adolescent brain development influences their use of specific tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and combustible tobacco. Youth tobacco treatment presents unique challenges, including the lack of FDA-approved medications for adolescents and the complexities introduced by the still-developing adolescent brain. These factors create both obstacles and opportunities in treatment planning. The session will review key evidence, guidelines, and prescribing recommendations for pharmacotherapy in youth tobacco treatment, with a focus on safety and efficacy. Participants will also learn effective strategies for engaging adolescents both individually and within family settings, utilizing motivational interviewing, behavioral counseling, and family-centered interventions to support successful tobacco treatment.
