Treating Tobacco Together: Essential Skills Training

Join other health professionals in this virtual training to learn more about nicotine addiction and how to integrate brief, evidence-based tobacco treatment interventions into current practice. The Essential Skills Training is open to all health professionals, prevention professionals, and community members who are interested in learning more about the burden of tobacco and strategies for intervention and treatment. Participation in the Treating Tobacco Together: Essential Skills Training is a required component for the Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification Classic Training Pathway.

In this training, participants will learn about tobacco prevalence, products and burden, e-cigarettes and vaping, motivational interviewing, how to integrate brief, evidence-based tobacco treatment interventions into current practice, tobacco treatment medications and relapse prevention and recovery.

Three Training Formats To Choose From

The Treating Tobacco Together: Essential Skills Training is offered in three different modalities with both in-person and virtual training options. All options have the same content but will be offered in different formats. All Essential Skills Training options are approved for the Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification. You only need to pick ONE of the options.

Maine In-Person Offerings:

  • October 1, 2024 – TBD, Penobscot County
  • April 9, 2025 – TBD, Androscoggin County
  • May 6, 2025 – TBD, Cumberland County

Live Online (Zoom) Offerings:

  • November 12-14, 2024

Live Online (Zoom) with Pre-Work Offerings:

  • October 22, 2024
  • January 14, 2025

Please Note: Registration for the 1 Day Virtual Essential Skills Trainings close early in order to allow participants ample time to complete online course pre-work prior to the live session via Zoom. Online course pre-work will be released approximately one week prior to the live training session.

Training Cost: $25 for Maine resident, $50 for non-Maine resident

The MaineHealth Center for Tobacco Independence administers tobacco treatment trainings on behalf of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC), Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
