SUMMARY:Tobacco Intervention: Intensive Skills Training
DESCRIPTION:This two-day skills-focused training will build on knowledge gained in the Tobacco Intervention: Basic Skills Training. Participants will: \n\nExplore the value of a comprehensive tobacco use assessment\nLearn to develop effective treatment plans\nDiscuss considerations for medication management\nReview relapse prevention strategies\n\nClinicians will also spend time building on common counseling skills used in intensive tobacco treatment such as motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy. \nThis training is appropriate for individuals who have completed the Basic Skills Training within the past five years and are interested in increasing their tobacco treatment skills. The training is a requirement for those interested in the National Certificate in Tobacco Treatment Practice.

SUMMARY:The Why and How of Trauma-Informed Care: A Life Course Approach to Understanding the Trajectory of Tobacco Use
DESCRIPTION:This full day workshop will provide an overview of the ACEs science and evidence demonstrating the long-term consequences of early life adversity on tobacco use. The workshop will introduce trauma-informed care principles and practices and the importance of integration into tobacco cessation and prevention programs. \nWorkshop Objectives:\n1) To summarize the contribution of ACEs on tobacco and other substance use across the life span.\n2) To describe trauma-informed principles.\n3) To demonstrate trauma-informed practices as it applies to tobacco and substance use. \nAbout the Presenter: Dr. Shanta R. Dube is Associate Professor at Georgia State University. In 1999\, she joined the CDC as one of the early investigators on the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study and has been actively engaged in ACE research for two decades. Her current work focuses on delivering her training The Why and How of Trauma-Informed Care to increase awareness\, acceptance\, and adoption of the ACEs science and integrative approaches to trauma healing.

DESCRIPTION:Interested in training youth to talk to their peers about tobacco & vaping in a way they’ll listen? Become a Sidekicks Master Trainer/Adult Advisor and we’ll help you find the words! Adults interested in being trained as a Sidekicks Master Trainer can join the CTI Tobacco Prevention Services team and local tobacco prevention partners to be trained in the Sidekicks program. Once trained as a Sidekick\, youth have the skills to hold respectful conversations with their peers about tobacco use\, as well as other risky behaviors.
